[OFFICIAL] Bryan Singer Will Direct X-Men First Class Sequel

Bryan Singer, director of the first two films in the X-Men film series will return to direct the X-Men: First Class sequel, X-Men: Days of Future Past, which is scheduled for a July 18th, 2014 release.

Singer will take over from Matthew Vaughn, who will direct a film adaptation of Secret Service, a project he co-produced with noted comic book writer Mark Millar.

Interestingly enough, two years ago, it was Matthew Vaughn who took over the director’s chair from Bryan Singer during the production of X-Men: First Class, when Singer abdicated the director’s chair to direct an adaptation of Jack the Giant Killer Slayer. That film is scheduled for a March 1st, 2013 release.

X-Men: Days of Future Past has a tentative release date of July 18, 2014.

Matthew Vaughn to Leave X-Men: First Class Sequel

Matthew Vaughn, who helmed X-Men: First Class after taking over directorial duties from previous X-Men Film series director Bryan Singer, will be abdicating the directors chair of the upcoming First Class sequel, X-Men: Days of Future Past to direct a film adaptation of Secret Service, a project he co-produced with Mark Millar.

Vaughn had worked on the 2010 film adaptation of Millar’s Kick-Ass comic series.

There is speculation that the short list for a replacement director for Days of Future Past would be no other than… Bryan Singer, who also served as a producer for the previous film, and was supposed to take the reigns over from Vaughn at some point in one of the First class trilogy films anyway.

X-Men: Days of Future Past has a tentative release date of July 18, 2014.

For Wolverine fans, the second solo film of the character, as played by Hugh Jackman, titled The Wolverine, is in production, with a July 26th 2013 release.

It’s supposed to be set in the same continuity with the X-Men films prior to X-Men: First Class.

Matthew Vaughn set to direct new X-Men film

– Tentative Release date is Spring 2011.
– Vaughn will take over from former X-movies director Bryan Singer, who is working on an adaptation of Jack the Giant-Killer, a Darker & Edgier version of Jack & the Beanstalk. Vaughn was originally set to direct X-Men: The Last Stand. His most recent film was Kick-Ass.
– This movie will combine the aestetics of the original X-Men’s expliots (pre-Wolverine), the currently running X-Men: First Class comic and the long rumored Magneto prequel.
After X-Men Origins: Wolverine lowered my expectations on the franchise, I assumed any prequel options were on life support. Boy, was I wrong.
The X-Men is a Cash Cow property and Fox wont let this die, no matter how mediocre it gets. However, with Vaughn’s handling of Kick-Ass, I have hope that he’ll make a fan friendly, capable film.
Stay Tuned.
