Obit: Carl Macek (1951-2010)

Long time Anime pioneer Carl Macek passed away this Saturday.

While his legacy may have been a mixed bag of sorts (Look up the term “Macekre“, or research the feud between fans of Robotech and older, butt-hurt Macross fans), he was instrumental in expanding the medium of Japanese Animation over to the United States and influencing generations of fans, including myself. Despite the polarizing reactions he received for the Macross debacle, people forget that he formed one of the first (if not the first) companies dedicated to distributing Anime uncut… even with the free wheeling scripts and all.

Rest in Peace, Carl. And thanks.

Macross Frontier: the Movie info copypasta

6/27 Trailer for Macross Frontier~Itsuwari no Utahime~.
Song is “Sō Da Yo,”by Megumi Nakajima (Ranka Lee)

Details have been announced for Gekijō-ban Macross Frontier ~Itsuwari no Utahime~: , (Macross Frontier The Movie: The False Songstress).

The movie is scheduled to be released on November 21 this year in Japan and will feature the main cast of the series.
So far, the movie will feature a new song from Megumi Nakajima (Ranka Lee). Most likely there will be one from May’n as well.
Whether or not if the movie a straight up continuation of the story, or a retelling like DYRL, I haven’t seen any details yet. At least, this will tide me over until the Gundam 00 Movie next year.

For the ill-infomed, Macross Frontier was a recent installment/spin-off of the original anime.
As with much of the Macross franchise, expect hell to freeze over before a US release of the movie or the Macross Frontier TV series proper, so get ready for those torrents.

EDIT:  Itsuwari no Utahime is a compilation movie with some new footage. Another story from ANN confirms that a second Macross Frontier movie is in development, this one with an all new story. There are no further details at the moment.

MOAR Dark Shadows’s Plz

So Tim Burton and Johnny Depp whist in the middle of a collaboration in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland project (which looks like it’s going to be Nightmare Fuel Unleaded), have re-collabo’ed for an Adaptation of the 1960’s ABC Soap Opera, Dark Shadows.

Story

Dark Shadows ran from 1966 – 1971.  Aside from a glimpse of it on Sci-Fi, I don’t know too much about the series. My mother was a huge fan, and apparently, so is Johnny Depp. Given Burton’s knack for making Depp a convinvingly creepy bastard, and Deep’s jumping at the call, this could turnout to be a pretty awsome flick.

Note: Anime Spotlight #1 is up. Check it out.

What is Bahamut Six?

Bahamut Six is a blog with a slant towards anime (Mecha anime, to be exact) and music, western TV, movies and other assorted crap that I find interesting.
